Damian Piwowarczyk Stops Emilio Quissua in Round One at DWCS
Damian Piwowarczyk needed the last minute of Round 1 to show why he came to Las Vegas.
The 6-foot-6 Polish light heavyweight stopped previously unbeaten Emilio Quissua by TKO at 4:55 of the first round on Dana White’s Contender Series Season 10, Week 7.
The finish opened the card Tuesday night at the Meta Apex.
Piwowarczyk improved to 12-4. Quissua fell to 8-1.
Quissua started faster. He looked for the right hand while Piwowarczyk stayed patient and ate a brief delay after an accidental groin shot.
The Polish veteran then missed a spinning backfist and spent much of the round finding range.
The fight changed late.
Piwowarczyk landed clean, dropped Quissua, and followed him to the canvas. Quissua got back to his feet twice. He could not stay there.
A second knockdown and a third flurry forced the referee to wave it off with five seconds left in the round.
That is the version of Piwowarczyk KSW fans have seen for years. Ten of his 12 wins have ended before the final bell. Six of those are knockouts.
He entered the Contender Series on a three-fight finish streak. The last one was a second-round TKO of Sergiusz Zając at KSW 116 on March 14.
Quissua arrived 8-0 after stoppage wins in Oktagon MMA. The German prospect had never been finished as a professional.
Piwowarczyk’s size was the problem he could not solve. The Pole listed at 6-foot-6 with a long frame and a 205-pound walkaround that matches the light heavyweight limit.
He trains with former UFC fighter Bartosz Fabiński. The assignment Tuesday was simple. Win clean enough to put his name in front of Dana White.
A first-round TKO does that work. It does not guarantee a contract.
White has already handed out 28 UFC deals through six weeks of Season 10. Contract winners from Week 7 had not been announced when the result posted.
Piwowarczyk’s case is the tape. He needed a finish against an undefeated opponent and delivered one before the horn.
The late surge also answered the slow start. He was not the busier fighter early. He was the one who ended it.
Light heavyweight on the Contender Series is a thin path. The UFC roster at 205 is already crowded with veterans and recent signings.
A 29-year-old KSW regular with four losses does not walk in as a finished prospect. A first-round stoppage of an 8-0 fighter is the kind of night that still gets a second look.
Piwowarczyk has been stopped before on the regional scene. He has also finished most of the men in front of him.
Tuesday put that power on the biggest tryout stage in the sport.
Quissua showed enough to get up twice after being hurt. He did not show enough to survive the last 30 seconds.
The next step for Piwowarczyk is the same one every Contender Series winner waits on. White either offers the deal or he does not.
The knockout is already in the books.
