Nigel Benn Tells Conor Benn to Spend Time With Family After Loss
Nigel Benn did not post a fight plan after Ryan Garcia stopped his son in two rounds. He posted a locker-room hug and a two-line message that matched what Conor Benn had already told the public.
“Proud of you son for always putting in 110%,” Nigel wrote on Instagram. “Go spend some time with your family.”
The photo shows the former two-division champion in a Team Benn shirt with his back to the camera and Conor’s face against his shoulder. It is the first family statement from the corner after Saturday’s WBC welterweight title fight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Garcia retained the belt at 1:25 of the second round. He dropped Benn with a right hand, and referee Thomas Taylor waved it off after the champion trapped him on the ropes. Garcia moved to 26-2 with 21 knockouts. Benn fell to 25-2 in his first world title shot.
Benn had already said the 147-pound trip was a one-off. He had not fought at the limit since 2022, and he walked in as the smaller man against a champion who promised a stoppage inside five rounds.
The night ended the way Garcia described it. Benn came forward. Garcia stood his ground in round two and landed the shot that finished the argument.
Nigel walked his son to the ring in Las Vegas, the same city where he stopped Iran Barkley in a round in 1990. The walk this time ended in a hospital check for Conor and a quiet post from a father who has lived both sides of a bad night.
Conor’s own message landed first. He wrote that he does not know what is next in boxing and that the people who have paid the highest price are his family and his kids.
“So when people ask me what’s next for Conor Benn, right now the answer is simple,” he wrote. “Time with my kids.”
Nigel’s caption did not add a rematch, a weight class, or a date. It repeated the 110 percent line Conor used about his own career and pointed him toward the same place Conor had already named.
That is the story two days later. Not a rebuild announcement. A father telling a 29-year-old who just lost his first title fight that the work was enough for now and the next job is at home.
Benn went to the hospital after the stoppage and has not detailed injuries beyond the beating that was visible in the second round. Garcia left the ring calling for a unification with Teofimo Lopez.
Nothing in Nigel’s post closes the door on another fight. It only sets the order. Family first. Boxing later, if there is a later.
The Benns have always sold the sport as inheritance. Saturday was the first time the inheritance included a public instruction to step away from it. Conor said the kids have shared him with boxing their entire lives. His father just told him to give that time back.
