Jean Silva Submits Jose Delgado in Third Round at Noche UFC
Jean Silva closed Noche UFC with a third-round submission, finishing Jose Miguel Delgado by rear-naked choke at 2:57. The Brazilian featherweight dropped Delgado with a right hand, took the back, and forced the tap in the five-round main event at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
Silva improved to 18-3 overall and 7-1 in the UFC. Delgado fell to 12-3 MMA and 4-2 inside the Octagon in his first promotional main event.
The No. 6-ranked 145-pounder was supposed to face former interim champion Yair Rodriguez. Rodriguez withdrew with an injury about four weeks out, and Delgado, an Arizona product who trains at The MMA Lab, stepped in on short notice.
Silva still treated the night as a title eliminator. “I don’t think. I am sure that I’m next,” he told CBS Sports through an interpreter before the fight.
Alexander Volkanovski is scheduled to defend the featherweight championship against Movsar Evloev at UFC 333 on Oct. 24. A win over Rodriguez would have been a louder statement, but Silva said the opponent change did not change who he thinks should be next.
Delgado made him work for it. The 28-year-old from Yuma entered 4-1 in the UFC with 2026 wins over Andre Fili and Austin Bashi, and he was a heavy underdog at around +320.
The first round went to the replacement. Silva barely threw for several minutes, ate a shot that started swelling his left eye, and found himself on the canvas as Delgado took the early minutes of a five-round fight.
Round 2 flipped the fight. Silva walked Delgado down, piled up body work, and evened the scorecards after MMA Fighting had it 19-19 heading into the third.
The finish came out of that pressure. Silva landed an overhand, then a straight right that sat Delgado down, let him up into a shot, sprawled, and climbed to the back with a one-arm choke under the chin.
Referee Dan Miragliotta stepped in at 2:57 of Round 3. It was a club-and-sub sequence that turned a close main event into Silva’s sixth finish in seven UFC wins.
Silva then jumped the cage and handed his gloves to UFC executive Hunter Campbell. The post-fight scene fit a fighter who has built a following as much on chaos as on results.
The result keeps him in the featherweight title conversation after a rocky 2025. Silva’s only UFC loss came when Diego Lopes knocked him out with a spinning backfist, snapping a long win streak before Silva bounced back against Arnold Allen at UFC 324 in January.
Beating Delgado does not automatically book a championship fight. Volkanovski-Evloev is already set for October, and Rodriguez, Diego Lopes, and other ranked names remain in the mix at 145 pounds.
What it does is keep Silva unbeaten since the Lopes loss and give him a main-event stoppage on the same Noche stage he headlined a year ago. He has now finished five of his six UFC victories before this choke, with the Mitchell arm-triangle already on that list.
For Delgado, it is a first career stoppage loss in a spot he asked for. He had said he wanted Silva, called the booking destiny, and lasted into the third round of a five-round main event after taking the fight on short notice.
Noche UFC’s fourth edition is in the books on Paramount+, and Silva leaves Glendale with a 7-1 UFC record, a third-round submission, and the same claim he made all week: that he should be next for the featherweight title.
