Igor Cavalcanti Earns UFC Contract With First-Round TKO of Oscar Ravello
Igor Cavalcanti earned a UFC contract on Tuesday night after stopping Oscar Ravello at 1:38 of the first round on Week 6 of Dana White’s Contender Series. The Brazilian middleweight improved to 14-2 and closed his second Apex tryout with ground-and-pound at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
Officials listed the result as a TKO by punches. Ravello fell to 13-4-1 after a one-sided opening that never required a second round.
Dana White later named Cavalcanti among four new signings from the card, along with Mayton Perea, Akbar Abdullaev, and Luis Hernandez. The UFC account had already posted the finish while the show was still live.
“Full power on display,” the promotion wrote. “Igor Cavalcanti makes a statement with a RD1 finish on #DWCS!”
Season 10, Week 6 streamed on Paramount+. Cavalcanti, nicknamed “Jacare,” used the date to rewrite a 2024 Contender Series loss to Seok Hyeon Ko.
That first appearance ended by unanimous decision. He went 4-1 over his next five MMA fights, added work in boxing and kickboxing, and came into Tuesday on a two-fight finishing streak.
The 28-year-old from Natal stands 5-foot-11 and fights out of Infinity Fight Team. All 14 of his wins have now ended inside the distance, 11 by knockout or TKO and three by submission.
Ravello, billed as “The Punisher,” arrived 13-3-1 off a first-round arm-triangle win in April. The 27-year-old Peruvian switch-stance middleweight is listed at 5-foot-10 with a 72.5-inch reach.
He did not get the chance to use it. Cavalcanti landed a straight right in the first exchange, put Ravello on the canvas, and followed him down.
Ravello stood once and threw while he had space. Cavalcanti stayed on him, completed both of his takedown attempts, and kept punching from top position until referee Kevin MacDonald had seen enough.
The numbers matched that picture. Cavalcanti landed 52 of 73 total strikes and 35 of 51 significant strikes, including 33 of 49 to the head.
Ravello managed 5 of 16 total strikes and 3 of 13 significant strikes. He scored 2 of 9 to the head, 1 of 4 to the legs, and nothing to the body.
Control time sat at 0:57 to 0:00. Cavalcanti also held the only knockdown of the fight and needed no submission attempt to end it.
Sherdog recorded the stoppage as elbows and punches. Either way, Ravello was stuck on the mat and could not roll far enough to force a restart.
That is the version of Cavalcanti White had not seen in 2024. The first Contender Series night asked him to go 15 minutes. This one asked him to finish a durable regional veteran before the round got deep.
He did it without emptying the tank on wild swings. MMA Fighting noted that Cavalcanti stayed measured on the ground after the knockdown instead of overextending.
The contract puts him on the UFC middleweight roster after two years of regional work in Brazil and Europe. His only losses remain the Ko decision and a November 2025 arm-triangle defeat to Kamil Kraska in an FNC title fight.
Ravello’s two-fight win streak is over. A first-round arm-triangle in April was not enough to survive an early right hand against a finisher who had stopped Marek Jakimowicz and Emanuel Lopez in round one this year.
Week 6 also produced a 19-second knockout from Abdullaev and a second-round submission from Hernandez. Tyshawn Williams won the opener by decision and was not among the four fighters White signed.
Cavalcanti now waits on a UFC debut date rather than another Apex audition. Week 7 of Contender Series returns Sept. 22, but his next middleweight opponent will come from the UFC roster.
