Crawford Beat Canelo to Close a Five-Weight World Title Career
Terence Crawford walked out of Allegiant Stadium as a five-weight world champion and later decided that night was enough. The unanimous decision over Canelo Alvarez on Sept. 13, 2025, gave him the undisputed super middleweight title and the last line on a 42-0 record.
The cards were 116-112 and 115-113 twice. Crawford dropped to his knees when the winner was announced. Canelo went to 63-3-2. The smaller man from Omaha had just taken every belt at 168 pounds.
That made him the first man in the four-belt era to be undisputed in three divisions. He had already cleaned out junior welterweight and welterweight. The Canelo win added the fifth weight class to a résumé that started at lightweight.
The list on the poster is the career in order. Lightweight. Junior welterweight. Welterweight. Junior middleweight. Super middleweight. Crawford collected world titles in all five and left the last one on top of the biggest opponent he ever faced.
He announced his retirement in December 2025. He later said the plan existed before the first punch. “Won or lost, 1,000 percent,” he told The Pivot. He wanted to leave on his own terms after a camp he described as the hardest of his life.
The final 20 fights of the record all carried a belt. Thirty-one of the 42 wins ended inside the distance. The last one did not need a knockout. It needed 12 rounds of the version of Crawford that makes bigger men miss and then pays them back at range.
Canelo had been the face of the middle weights for a decade. Crawford treated him like another problem to solve. The size gap that was supposed to decide the night never controlled it.

The sport will keep offering money. The record does not need another night. A man who started at 135 and finished as undisputed at 168, unbeaten, with three undisputed reigns, does not have a hole left that a comeback would fill.
Crawford said every fighter knows the moment is coming. He just never knew when. For him it was the morning after he beat Canelo and the December video that made it official. Five weights. Forty-two wins. One last walk in Las Vegas that he chose as the end.
