Marcos Degli Submits Paris Moran Late in Round Two at DWCS
Marcos Degli closed the second round with a choke, not a knockout.
The former LFA flyweight champion finished Paris Moran by standing rear-naked choke at 4:46 of Round 2 on Tuesday at Dana White’s Contender Series Season 10, Week 7.
The stoppage came at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas with five seconds left in the round.
Degli improved to 15-3. Moran fell to 14-4.
The 26-year-old Brazilian extended a 13-fight winning streak that dates to 2022. Thirteen of his 15 wins have ended before the judges.
He wanted this one on the mat.
“I don’t just do knockouts, I want to show people that I can submit people,” Degli told Laura Sanko through an interpreter after the fight.
That was the point of the night. Degli entered as a power striker who had just defended the LFA title with a first-round body-shot knockout of Luis Aguiar in January.
Moran, 30, came in as a Fury FC flyweight titleholder from Katy, Texas. Eight of his 14 wins were decisions. He had the size edge at 5-foot-8 to Degli’s 5-foot-6.
The Brazilian still found the back.
Herb Dean waved it off after Degli locked the standing rear-naked choke late in the second. UFC.com listed the finish in Round 2. Official time was 4:46.
Degli trains at Vale Tudo Top Team with Carlos Prates. Prates had already put his teammate’s name in front of Dana White after a UFC win.
This was the audition that followed.
A 13-fight streak with 13 finishes in 15 career wins is the résumé White usually wants on Contender Series. A late-round submission against a durable regional champion adds the piece Degli said was missing.
Moran had never been submitted in a loss that ended his night like this. His previous defeats were mixed. He could not peel the Brazilian off his back before the horn.
Flyweight on the Contender Series is crowded. The UFC roster at 125 already has depth, and White has handed out 28 contracts through six weeks of Season 10.
Week 7 deals had not been announced with the official result.
Degli’s argument is the finish and the streak. He did not need 15 minutes. He did not need a decision.
He needed to show more than the liver shot that ended Aguiar.
The choke did that work.
Moran now sits 14-4 after a night that asked him to survive pressure from a shorter finisher. He lasted into the final seconds of Round 2. He did not last to the bell.
Degli leaves Las Vegas 15-3 and still waiting on the same answer every Contender Series winner waits on. White either offers the contract or he sends him back to LFA.
