Luis Hernandez Forces Tap From Hugo Guillon at DWCS Week 6
Luis Hernandez ended a middleweight scrap in the second round Tuesday, forcing Hugo Guillon to tap to a rear-naked choke at 1:01. The finish kept the Miami prospect unbeaten at 8-0 and gave Dana White’s Contender Series another highlight at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
Officials recorded the result as a submission at middleweight. Guillon left the cage 7-2 after his first appearance on the 2026 series.
The bout was the second fight on Season 10, Week 6, which streamed live on Paramount+. Dana White was in the building as 10 fighters chased UFC contracts on the Sept. 15 card.
Hernandez had never needed judges in seven previous professional fights. Three of those wins were knockouts and four were submissions, a finishing rate that put him on this show in the first place.
The 30-year-old southpaw fights out of Miami and works as a Miami-Dade sheriff’s deputy. He told WSVN before the trip that the assignment demanded more than a safe decision.
“They want to see a spontaneous, like a good win, they want to see entertainment, that you can be an entertaining fighter, and also have the skill set and go out there and perform,” Hernandez said.
Guillon presented a different problem than the regional opponents on that résumé. The Frenchman stands 6-foot-4, fights out of Montpellier, and came in off first-round stoppages at Ares and Kingdom Fighting.
Hernandez is listed near 5-foot-10 with a 73.5-inch reach. He had to close distance immediately or spend the night eating kicks from the outside.
He chose pressure. Hernandez punched into range, completed the only takedown of the fight at 1 of 3, and pinned Guillon to the fence in the opening minute.
Guillon stood, then threw Hernandez with a judo toss. The American got up at once, stayed attached, and started landing elbows in the clinch before the taller man broke free.
The first round kept changing owners. Hernandez scored with body kicks and a left hand that walked Guillon backward, then ate a right hand that snapped the momentum the other way.
With a minute left in the round, Hernandez looked slower and Guillon started letting combinations go. The pair still traded into the horn, and the Apex crowd was already loud before anyone sat down.
Round 2 opened with Hernandez throwing again. Guillon met him with a short left hook that put the favorite on the canvas.
Hernandez rose, then absorbed knees and a takedown. Guillon locked an anaconda choke that looked close enough to flip the result.
The escape decided the night. Hernandez cleared the choke, took the back, and finished the rear-naked choke for the tap at 1:01 of the second.
The numbers matched a fight that never settled into one man’s rhythm. Hernandez landed 75 of 126 total strikes and 67 of 116 significant strikes.
Guillon connected on 58 of 83 total strikes and 38 of 63 significant strikes. He was sharper to the head on a percentage basis, landing 22 of 35 significant head shots.
Hernandez won the body work, 24 of 27 to 15 of 27, and held 1:37 of control time to 0:19. Each man had zero knockdowns on the official sheet despite that second-round left hook.
Guillon went 0 of 1 on takedowns and did not record a submission attempt. Hernandez’s lone official attempt was the choke that ended it.
That sequence is why the win will travel. Getting dropped, surviving a neck crank, and finishing inside a minute is the tape White has rewarded through the first half of the season.
Season 10 had already produced 24 contracts across five weeks, including four of five winners after Week 5. A back-and-forth finish still has to wait on the rest of the card before anyone knows if it is enough.
Hernandez now owns five submissions in eight wins and still has no decision on his record. Guillon showed the length and the scramble threat, then lost the one exchange he needed to win.
Tyshawn Williams had already opened the night with a unanimous decision over Antonio Monteiro. Lightweight, middleweight, and welterweight fights were still queued when Hernandez left the cage.
Week 7 is set for Sept. 22 at the same venue. If White signs the 8-0 middleweight, the next test moves from Contender Series to a UFC roster card.
