Bryce Mitchell Claims Half Moon Proves the Earth Is Flat
Bryce Mitchell posted a new outdoor video he says proves the Earth is flat, pointing to the sun and a half moon sharing the same sky. The ranked UFC bantamweight argues that both bodies being fully visible should mean a fully lit moon, and he presented that mismatch as evidence the moon is not reflecting sunlight.
The clip went out through his Thug Nasty MMA account. Mitchell treated it as a closed case rather than a question.
“The sun is directly behind me. The moon is totally visible too. See how it has a line drawn through it? A flat line. So if the whole moon is visible, and the whole sun is visible, then why is the moon not totally illuminated? Why does it have a flat line through it? You cannot debunk that you globe earthers. Why is it a half moon when they’re both wide open? Because the moon’s not reflecting sunlight. Wake up people!”
Those are Mitchell’s claims, not a scientific finding. They run against the established understanding that Earth is a globe and that moonlight is reflected sunlight, with the moon’s phases produced by the angle between the sun, moon, and a viewer on Earth.
This is not a new lane for him. Mitchell has argued for years that the planet is fixed and flat, repeating the position on podcasts, after fights, and in social videos, including a public challenge to debate Joe Rogan on the topic.
The latest video does not change his standing inside the UFC. It does keep the same off-camera brand attached to a fighter who is again winning fights.
Mitchell is 19-3 as a professional and 10-3 in the UFC. He now competes at bantamweight after most of his run at 145 pounds.
He sits at No. 14 in the official Meta UFC bantamweight rankings. A two-fight winning streak at 135 began with a unanimous decision over Said Nurmagomedov in Abu Dhabi on July 26, 2025.
He followed that with a third-round arm-triangle choke of Santiago Luna on June 6 at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. Luna was a late replacement after Victor Henry withdrew.
The finish came with eight seconds left in the round. It was Mitchell’s first UFC submission since 2019 and a cleaner result than his last featherweight outing.
That previous fight was a second-round ninja choke loss to Jean Silva at UFC 314 in April 2025. The move down in weight has been the more productive stretch.
None of those results have slowed the lectures. Mitchell has used the platform that comes with a UFC contract to talk about the shape of the planet as freely as he talks about wrestling.
The sport has not asked him to stop. It also has not booked his next MMA fight.
What is booked is grappling. Mitchell headlines UFC BJJ 11 on Sept. 24 against UFC BJJ bantamweight champion Mikey Musumeci at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
The match is at 145 pounds, so Musumeci’s title is not on the line. Mitchell will be the first active UFC fighter to meet a UFC BJJ champion in that format.
Musumeci is undefeated under the UFC BJJ banner. The two already spent a long session on Demetrious Johnson’s Mighty Debate this week arguing about leg locks, guard pulling, and style, not about the moon.
That is the date that actually sits on the calendar. The sun-and-moon clip is what will travel with him into that fight week, the same way older flat-Earth videos have followed him through every recent appearance.
Mitchell has always treated the microphone as part of the job. This video is another example of him using that space for a theory he says cannot be answered.
Whether the audience shows up for the grappling or for the next outdoor argument, Sept. 24 is the next confirmed night of work. Until the UFC puts him back in the Octagon, that is where he is headed.
