Dione Barbosa Submits Anna Melisano in Round 1 at UFC Oklahoma City
Dione Barbosa earned a first-round submission victory over Anna Melisano in a women’s flyweight bout at UFC Fight Night: Du Plessis vs. Usman. The finish came at 4:04 of the opening round and improved Barbosa’s record to 10-4 while dropping Melisano to 6-2.
The contest took place on the preliminary card of the July 18 event at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City. Melisano was making her UFC debut on short notice after competing on The Ultimate Fighter.
Barbosa controlled the action from the start. She outlanded Melisano 22-6 in total strikes, connecting on 75.9 percent of her attempts compared to Melisano’s 60 percent. Significant strikes also favored the Brazilian, who landed 5 of 7 (71.4 percent) while Melisano managed only 2 of 6 (33.3 percent).
Neither fighter scored a knockdown. Barbosa completed one of two takedown attempts and generated two submission tries. Melisano recorded no takedowns and no submission attempts.
Barbosa eventually secured a rear-naked choke while both fighters were standing, forcing the tap. The finish marked a dominant performance in a short outing and gave the Brazilian her latest UFC win.
The result continues Barbosa’s recent momentum in the flyweight division. For Melisano, the loss marks a tough introduction to the UFC roster after stepping up on short notice.
